When I first saw Ragna’s Rock slot, I thought the company behind it was going for a “Cyber Viking” theme that I thought was pretty novel. Turns out I was wrong, and it is a theme that is really well-developed. It’s also a genre that I am really glad to have discovered — the art being created for it is amazing.

So, if Cyber Viking wasn’t what GameArt was going for with Ragna’s Rock slot, does it still have enough to keep me interested?

The Viking quest

Ragna’s Rock slot offers a 7×7-reel format. The gameplay’s most prominent feature is the bonus meter located to the left of the reels.

If you manage to hit a winning spin, a small amount will be added to the meter. The symbols involved in that winning combination will then disappear, allowing new symbols to fall into the empty spots. If you win again, more will be added to the meter, and so on. If you fully fill at least one of five segments, you’ll unlock a bonus feature. Each segment features a different bonus feature.

• Pink – Transforms up to eight symbols into wilds.
• Orange – Places a wild in the middle of the reels and then transforms two diagonal lines from the center into the same random symbol.
• Blue – Removes all low-paying symbols.
• Green – Transforms all instances of low-paying symbols into a different symbol.
• Red – Adds a 3×3 Ragna wild to the reels in a random position. It then becomes a 2×2 wild and then finally a 1×1 wild before disappearing.

Although the bonus meter is the most prominent of the slot’s features, it is not nearly the only one. If four symbols of a winning combination form a 2×2 grid, they will transform into a single super-sized symbol and receive a 2x multiplier, doubling any winnings. Additionally, on any non-winning spin, Thor and his mates can throw up to eight wilds onto the reels to potentially spark a win.

Then there’s the slot’s round of free spins, which is triggered when a Ragna wild and a wild rock appear on the reels at the same time. Initially, you will be awarded five free spins. The slot’s round of free spins has its own bonus meter that will award increasingly large Ragna wilds and multipliers.

If you’re not keen on waiting around to unlock the slot’s feature the old-fashioned way, you can select to just purchase them. The buy bonus options allow you to purchase two, three, four, or five of the bonus meter features or a round of free spins.

Is Ragna’s Rock slot a bonus overload?

Ragna’s Rock slot offers very high volatility, which means that you’ll go through long periods with no wins. However, when you do hit those wins, the 20,000x max multiplier will give you a shot at some big winning amounts. The slot has an RTP of 96.75%.

The sheer number of bonus features packed into this one is bonkers. Ragna’s Rock slot may have the most feature-filled gameplay of any slot I’ve ever tried. I think the theme is also interesting, but because of the size of the reels, it makes the execution of that theme a challenging exercise that I don’t think GameArt actually nailed. The long period without any of the amazing bonus features being triggered also doesn’t help. I give this one seven out of ten.
