Search for the Supernatural in Ghost Huntin’ Slot
I knew there were a few television shows dedicated to “ghost hunting,” but boy, was I unaware of how many there are. There are literally lists of the programs. Here are a few examples: 28 Days Haunted, Ghost Wars, Surviving Death, Paranormal Investigators, Ghost Hunters, and on and on. And they are all essentially the same thing. A few people walk around a house at night and freak out when the wood creeks or a tap drips. It’s a strange little niche that, it turns out, isn’t all that little. Time, I guess, for a slot game developer to capitalize on that strangely large niche.
Ghost Huntin’ slot has just been released by 1×2 Gaming. Well, sort of. The game has technically been released under Prospect Gaming, which is 1×2’s “fourth in-house games studio.”
Let the huntin’ begin
The 1,024 ways to win slot features five reels, which are four rows high. A fifth row appears above the slot and features multiplier and free spins bonuses. Below the reels is a “collector.”
During a spin, the collector will run around the bottom of the reels. Once the reels come to a stop, the collector will stop under one of the five reels. If that reel contains one of the ghost symbols, the collector will fire his laser, and the bonus above the specific reel will be awarded. During base gameplay, the multiplier values can range from 2x to 1,000x.
Although the standard base gameplay only comes with one collector, you can select to add an additional collector. This privilege will increase your per-spin bet amount by 50%.
A round of free spins is triggered when the collector zaps a free spins bonus award. During a round of free spins, you have the chance to have as many as three collectors working at the same time to unlock bonus features for you.
If you’re not keen on waiting around for a haunting, you can select to purchase a round of the slot’s free spins. During a round of free spins, the multiplier values can range from 2x to 1,000x. Free spins are also re-triggerable, with an extra five free spins being awarded at a time.
Is Ghost Huntin’s slot a pleasant zap of nostalgia?
Ghost Huntin’ slot features medium to high volatility. This means that although the slot will, from time to time, lean towards less frequent, larger wins, there will also be some balance with low-paying, more frequent wins. The slot’s 4,000x max multiplier means that if you’re betting at the €0.20 a spin minimum, you can still play for up to €800 in winnings. If you select to bet at the €20 a spin maximum, you can play for up to €80,000. The slot has an RTP of 96%.
I wasn’t really old enough to have enjoyed Ghost Busters when it first came out. In fact, I vaguely remember being haunted by the giant marshmallow monster after watching it with my older brothers. However, the movie has become so culturally relevant that even if you haven’t watched the movies, there is still a strange sense of nostalgia for the property. This nostalgia is exactly what Prospect Gaming was looking to capitalize on with Ghost Huntin’ slot. So, did they manage it? Not for me, no. The graphics are great, and the bonus features are definitely engaging. It just felt like a lot of the fun and humor that I expected to be there was just missing. It’s a solid slot, but I think it falls short of its ambitions. This one gets a six out of ten for me.
If you’re looking for a few new games that I do recommend, try out Immortal Desire from Hacksaw Gaming or Space Cows to the Moo’n from Booming Games.
