We’re Seeing Double with the Riot Ultimate Slot

The post-apocalyptic genre started with Mary Shelley’s The Last Man in 1826, where she imagined humanity wiped out by a plague—a cheerful thought for Victorian readers. By the 20th century, as we flirted with self-destruction via nuclear warfare, the genre really found its stride. H.G. Wells introduced us to alien invasions and time travel, while Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend turned humans into vampires, because apparently regular apocalypses weren’t depressing enough. The genre can now be found everywhere, including in a series of slots from Mascot.

The original Riot slot came out in February 2020. Mascot followed that up with a sequel called Riot 2: Blow and Burn, which was released in May 2022. This was a fresh addition to the franchise with new characters, more reels, new music, and a new setting. Late last month, Mascot released the Riot Ultimate slot, which is strikingly similar to the original from 2020.

Welcome to the apocalypse

The Riot Ultimate slot features a 5×3 reel setup with 15 paylines. The slot features four high-paying symbols and eight low-paying symbols. It also features a wild symbol that will complete or boost winning combinations and two scatter symbols.

Riot Ultimate features multiple free spin modes. In the first mode, the soldier symbol transforms into a sticky wild reel, triggering a free respin. In the second mode, all bandit symbols become sticky wilds for the entire free spins round. The third mode is triggered by a combination of survivor symbols, granting free spins with a 3x win multiplier and the potential to win additional free spins.

The Risk & Buy feature offers two distinct options: the risk option allows players to gamble their winnings in a game of chance, with the possibility of increasing their payout through a win multiplier. The buy option enables players to purchase free spins or bonus games at a suggested price, with a special buy offer available after each spin.

Is Riot Ultimate slot just a great copy?

Betting on the Riot Ultimate slot starts at $0.15 a spin and goes up to $45 a spin. With a fairly small 1,500x maximum multiplier, the slot gives you a shot at winning no more than $67,500. With a maximum winning amount that small, you’d expect low volatility. The slot does, however, get stuck with medium volatility. The slot’s return-to-player rate is 95%.

The Riot Ultimate slot is basically a carbon copy of Riot. It has the same music, the same setting, the same features, and the same symbols – which have, I’ll concede, been given an HD upgrade. This slight upgrade in the graphics is one of only two differences. The other is the Risk & Buy feature being supplemented with a full buy bonus feature.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of the buy bonus feature, and I would like an HD upgrade. I also do think that the Riot game benefits from these upgrades. But having both slots available at the same time seems a little repetitive to me. If they’d released Riot Ultimate and removed Riot, that would be one thing. As is, I’m not sure how this latest release makes sense.

If you’re looking to cleanse your pallet with some other Mascot games before trying to make sense of the Riot Ultimate slot, I recommend trying out Mist and Wild Wild Bet.
