Egypt Sphere: Hold the Spin Slot Review

Sometimes, I wonder about the human race. 😤 Evolution gave the ancient Egyptians perfectly good hair – which helped protect them from the sun’s harmful rays – but what did they do? They shaved it all off (and I’m also talking about the women, too). 🪒

So then they had to devise a way to avoid sunstroke, which meant wearing wigs made of human hair. WTF?

Now also imagine wearing a wig in like 113 degrees?! 🌞 And they had to oil 🛢️ the wigs to make them look halfway decent. They could’ve just left well enough alone, if you ask me.

This is Egypt Sphere: Hold the Spin slot from Gamzix.

Gameplay

Jackpots. You’ve got 4 of em, and you’ll see them listed to the left of the screen. The Mini pays 20x, the Minor pays 50x, the Major pays 150x, and the Grand pays 5,000x.

The grid is a traditional 5-reel one with 4 rows. The game has 40 paylines and a 96% Return To Player.

As for the max multiplier, that’s the same as the Grand Jackpot (5,000x), while the potential payout is capped at $225,000 – and that’s generous, considering the medium to high volatility rate.

There are a couple of special symbols that need mentioning, so here goes.

The Expand symbol is a Scarab beetle, and you’ll only see it during the Hold & Win round, where it will activate an extra row. The most you can land in that round are 2 of these symbols, which will boost the grid to 6 rows in height.

Once the symbol has boosted a row, it will take on a random value of 1x to 16x, or it may even transform into a Jackpot symbol.

Collect symbols are swirly gold things that also only appear in the Hold The Spin round. They gather all of the values from the visible special symbols, including other Collect symbols, Expand symbols, Payer, Bonus, and Jackpot symbols.

The Payer symbol is a beady little eye. Also spotted during the Hold The Spin feature, it increases the winnings of all special symbols (as listed above).

Features

HOLD THE SPIN:

Hitting 6 or more Bonus on the reels triggers this feature. You’ll get 3 re-spins at the start and each time that a new symbol lands, the spins will be reset. Oh, and triggering symbols stick to their position on the reels.

You can trigger this round in both the base game as well as during Free Spins.

Rows 5 and 6 will be locked initially, so you’ll need Expand symbols to resolve that.

Row 5 will only offer a place to Bonus Scatters with a 10x to 16x value, Collect, Expand, and Payer symbols, as well as Jackpot symbols. Only Collect, Payer, and Jackpot symbols will land on row 6.

Land a Jackpot symbol and you’ll be paid the Mini, Minor, or Major Jackpots, respectively. You win the Grand Jackpot by landing its symbol on row 6.

FREE SPINS:

Land 3 Scatter pyramids on reels 1, 3, and 5 in the base game to trigger a round with 10 spins. You can re-trigger 5 spins by landing an additional 3 Scatters on those reels I mentioned.

Only high-paying symbols, Wilds, and Bonus symbols will grace the reels during Free Spins.

Performance

I gave this game a thorough going over; playing it on multiple devices and browsers. And I’m happy to report that things went smoothly.

Maximum Win

You can score $225,000 by combining the 5,000x multiplier with the max bet of $45 (the minimum bet is $0.10).

Conclusion

The first thing I noticed was that the game offers no Buy Bonus. So that means you could sit – as I did – with no features triggering for many a round. Which gets boring and expensive.

But boy howdy, all can be forgiven if you score a Free Spins round that triggers a Bonus round. Which happened to me a couple of times.

You’ll be spoilt for choice if you like Hold The Spin games; Gamzix has produced a whole bunch – there’s even a fruit version for you vegetarian players. 😄
