Japanese Coin Hold the Spin Slot Review

What’s the worst hangover you’ve ever had? I have a raging one right now but I have a friend who swears that the devil himself invented a sake hangover.

Jeremy went to Japan a few years ago and got caught up in the karaoke bar's downward spiral. Before he knew it, he was bleating into a microphone and downing rice wine like he’d just emerged from the desert. And then the next day happened.

As he tells it, he woke up with his pillow stuck to his face (I’ll let you guess the reason why that happened), fully clothed in his bed surrounded by empty snack packets and bedsheets smeared with chocolate. He swears it was chocolate, but you never know. I’ve heard worse stories.

On top of that, his wallet was as empty as a sex worker’s soul and he had a pounding in his head that felt like Thor himself was trying to break open his skull.

Luckily, there’s not even a whiff of sake in Japanese Coin Hold the Spin slot from Gamzix. In fact, it’s too upbeat and radiant for my taste, given the state I’m in.

Gameplay

Damn, there’s some bright and cheerful stuff going on with Japanese Coin Hold the Spin slot. Not the best thing to have to stare at when you’re nursing a hangover, let me tell you. And as for that plinky-plinky soundtrack, it’s enough to make me wanna plunge a spoon in my ears.

But it’s my own fault; no one forced me to drink 13 Tequilas and an untold number of beers so I guess I’ll get no sympathy from you people.

I wasn’t kidding about how vibrant this game looks. The upshot is that Japanese Coin Hold the Spin slot looks stupendous on a phone held vertically, and particularly amazeballs when you flip your phone over.

You can see the symbols a mile away and that cheerfulness is infectious – even though I’m going to get dragged into that happy place kicking and screaming.

I’m happy to report that this isn’t a game that’s all looks and no substance. Gamzix has baked some decent stats into this one; check it out: 20 paylines, an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
of 96%, a medium volatility rate, a max multiplier of 5,200x, and a top prize worth €208,000.

But there’s still one final piece of good news – all currencies are available so you can rock this game with the crypto or fiat of your choosing.

You’ll notice that there are 4 Jackpot prizes above the reels – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum – but I’ll get into the details below.

As far as high-paying symbols go, you’ll see a Maneki-neko (our happy, waving cat of fortune), yin/yang goldfish, a scroll, and a fan.

You’ll also see Coins, and 6 or more of these on any of the reels will trigger the Jackpot game. Then there’s the mountain Scatter, which you’ll only see in the base game. Last up is the Wild which replaces all symbols except the Scatter and Coin symbols.

Features

FREE SPINS:

Land 3 Scatter symbols and you’ll trigger the Free Spins round, but Scatters also pay in any position.

There are 3 levels of Free Spins and you’ll cycle through the levels consecutively as you trigger the next round of Free Spins.

  • Level 1: 8 spins with only high-paying symbols, Wilds, and Coins appearing
  • Level 2: 15 spins with all symbols on the reels, except for the Scatter
  • Level 3: 8 spins with all symbols other than the Scatter appearing. On each spin, a random symbol – just not a Wild or Coin – can become a Wild symbol
JACKPOT GAME:

Right, so this bad boy can be triggered from the base game as well as in the Free Spins round. You’ll get 3 Re-spins at the start and all Coins will remain sticky until the feature ends.

Landing additional Coins resets the spin counter and once the round is over, the values of the Coin symbols will be added up and awarded.

As I mentioned, we have a Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Jackpot up for grabs. Landing a bronze, silver, or gold Coin awards the corresponding prize. However, if you fill all 15 positions with any type of Coin, that’s when you’ll clinch the Platinum Jackpot.

So here’s a little twist to our story – you could see a Mystery Coin land during this Jackpot game and it’ll turn into a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Coin, thereby awarding one of the Jackpots.

GAMBLE FEATURE:

Score a win and you’ll be offered the Gamble featureThis feature allows you to gamble your current winnings. It usually takes the form of guessing what color and/or suit a facedown card will reveal itself to be. A correct guess on the color pays 2x, while a correct guess of the color and suit pays 4x your bet. (look out for the card symbols below the SPIN button). If you accept it, then you’ll see a face-up card and four face-down cards. Your job is to beat the dealer by choosing a card with a higher value than his.

If you’re successful, you can keep going but a single loss means you lose everything you’ve gained up to that point. So it’s best to cash out using the piggy bank icon before you get too carried away.

And on that note, it’s entirely possible that none of the face-down cards is higher than the dealer’s so take that into consideration.

BUY BONUS:

Buy your way into the Free Spins round for 30x.

Performance

Performance wasn’t a problem while testing Japanese Coin Hold the Spin slot. It worked a treat across my devices and also on different browsers.

Maximum Win

You can score a generous €208,000 win on this medium volatility game if you land the 5,200x multiplier at the max bet of €40. But you can always bet from as little as €0.20 if you prefer.

Conclusion

Japanese Coin Hold the Spin slot offers a bunch of robust features that you’d typically see on a Hold & Win game… but with a twist. I’m referring to the three Free Spins levels, which is pretty funky.

I really love the fact that you can buy your way into the Free Spins round for only 30x; that’s a win in my books. Then there are the superb stats and the excellent mobile experience – all of which make Japanese Coin Hold the Spin slot an excellent game.

If you’re into this genre and you’re thematically agnostic – or better yet, if you're into this theme, too – then this is definitely a game worth having a go at.
