Monsters vs Gigablox Slot Review

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but in the world of monsters, being freakishly big usually plays an important role. King Kong would’ve just been darted and quietly shoved back into his cage if he were a normal-sized gorilla who’d escaped and tried to clamber up the Empire State Building.

And as for Godzilla, that prehistoric sea monster owed its massive stature to nuclear radiation. Without it, I reckon it would’ve ended up as an interesting accompaniment to a lovely sushi combo platter.

Yggdrasil has combined both size and freakish creatures in Monsters vs Gigablox slot. Let’s see how that plays out.

Gameplay

Oh man, this is one of the coolest-looking games I’ve reviewed in a very long time!

The theme revolves around a bunch of monsters, namely Kongo King (King Kong’s cousin, maybe?), Lord Zar (a Godzilla wannabee), Spartan Fighter, Great Old One, Object 51, and Pyroana (a mix between the Thing and Human Torch).

Oh, and I’ve listed those symbols in order – from highest-paying to lowest. You’re welcome.

The busy-looking 6-reel grid floats above a cityscape where buildings have been ravaged, and fires are spreading like L.A. in 2022. Too soon?

The city disappears when you play the game in portrait mode on a mobile phone. All you’ll see are the reels with the controls underneath. It looks fantastic, and the convoluted grid isn’t an issue because you can still see what’s going on.

I much prefer portrait to landscape mode, and if you’re looking for the Buy Bonus, it’s moved to the top left of the screen.

Moving on from the incredible design, there’s an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
of 96.1% (which is good), 50 paylines, and a high volatility rating. The max win of €233,700 is pretty much what I expected, too.

Sadly, it seems that our monsters are still living in the Dark Ages because this slot only accepts fiat currency. Dammit.

Features

If you’re unfamiliar with the term Gigablox, let me explain – these are oversized symbols that come in 2x2 to 6x6 formations. Any symbol can turn into a Gigablox.

The Wild is a golden square with a crown symbol on it. Wilds replace all symbols except the Scatters.

The Scatter symbol takes the form of a “VS,” and 5 or more Scatters pay 1x your total bet for each winning symbol.

FREE SPINS:

Land 5 or more Scatters anywhere on the reels, and you’ll initiate the Free Spins round. You can nab up to 40 spins with a Scatter win!

As for how many spins you’ll typically get, well, that works out to 4 spins plus an additional 1 for each triggering Scatter.

Whichever monster symbol is most prevalent on the reels at the point of triggering will become the Champion symbol for the round – you’ll see the icon at the top right of the grid. All Champion symbols that land during the Free Spins feature act as Wilds.

If there are an equal number of monster symbols, the highest-paying will become the Champion. If there are no monster symbols on the reels, though, then Kongo King is the Champ. During this feature, all Gigablox will be monster symbols only.

Free Spin wins made up exclusively of Wilds or Champions pay double. Sadly, Free Spins can’t be re-triggered.

BUY BONUS:

For the cost of 75x your bet (a reasonable price, indeed), you can go straight to the Free Spins round without waiting for it to land organically.

Performance

While cities might burn under our monsters' wrathful attention, the reels kept spinning. I played Monsters vs Gigablox slot on my phone and Mac Mini with no issues whatsoever.

Maximum Win

Betting starts at €0.50 and is capped at €75. If you’re playing at the latter and land the 3,116x multiplier, then you’re in for a wallet-busting €233,700 max win.

Conclusion

I love the concept and the boldness of Monsters vs Gigablox slot, and also the fact that the mobile experience is kick-ass. The stats are on point, and the hit frequency comes in at 38.38% (the average for slot games ranges from 20% to 30%).

As the game centers around the whole Gigablox thing, I’m not going to take away points for the lack of features. It just feels right as it is.

Does Yggdrasil’s latest get my stamp of approval? You’re damn skippy! Go ahead and play it. It’s a blast!
