Easter Island Slot Review

Dontcha think Easter Island is a kinda freaky place?
Much like the pyramids, the statues on the isolated island are a mystery.
Easter Island has actually many bizarre facts (which I will share with you know because I get paid by the word):

  • It's one of the most famous, yet least visited places on earth.

  • One of the statues is worn down and deformed. Nobody knows why.

  • There's evidence that the statues were moves about 11 miles across the island – without the use of wheels or animals. How?

  • A Finnish tourist was once caught after trying to steal a statues ear. WTF?

With all this mystery, it's about time someone made an irreverently funny video slot called Easter Island. Enter Yggdrasil, ready to bring the laughs to your P.C, mobile device or tablet. (For just one review, I'm going to let the inexplicable company name go uncriticized. I spoke to the head of marketing – Mr. Ryfhrdddl and he couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.)
The tone of this game is set explicitly by the bizarre and hilarious introduction where the statues are given loads of personality. It's kinda lame, but I liked it – sort of like an Adam Sandler movie. I found myself chuckling along despite the absurdity.

Gameplay

Easter Island is a medium volatility, 5 reel and 27-103 payline slot. Why the payline variation? Well in regular play there are 27 paylines, but in re-spins, that amount can go up to 103. The standard symbols are etchings of a falcon, fox, frog and what I presume are two lizards (Management: If you wanna know for sure, hire a zoologist to write the review). Oh – they're also joined by carvings of the card suits.
There's a wild sign which appears only on reels 2 and 4. This wild can replace all standard symbols.
The controls blend in nicely with the theme: On the left of the reels is a plus expander which contains Info (including Paytable), Rules and Settings (including Quickspin). At the bottom, we find Lines, Coin Value, Cash, Bet, Max Bet, Spin, Autospin, Win and Balance.

Features (all of which are unique!)

Symbol Swap Respin: Every winning spin in regular play activates a re-spin. (Note: you can't re-trigger this feature within a re-spin.) Re-spins award a symbol swap feature for a fantastic enhanced chance to win:
If the winning symbols are low paying ones, all the other low paying symbols are replaced with the winning symbol for the re-spin.
If the winning symbols were high paying ones, all the other high paying symbols are replaced with the winning symbol for the re-spin.

Expanding Reels: Reels expand vertically during the Symbol Swap Re-spin:

  • 3 of a kind wins award no reel expansion and the re-spin has 27 paylines.

  • 4 of a kind wins awards 2 extra rows and the re-spin has 65 paylines.

  • 5 of a kind wins rewards you with 4 extra rows and a whopping 103 paylins in the re-spin.

Expanding Wilds: When a wild forms part of a winning payline anywhere in the game, they expand to cover the entire reel. During the base game, these wilds remain sticky for the symbol swap re-spin and also grow to fill the entire reel.

Maximum Win

The maximum win in Easter Island is 515 000 coins! Wow! If I win, I'm gonna buy one of those statues for my garden…

Performance

Everything about the gameplay blew me away. The graphics are fluid and the animations crisp. Music is upbeat and peppy while the sound effects never fail to induce a laugh.
There were no performance issues on any devices tested. Top notch!

Conclusion

Easter Island is an original, fresh concept that's fun to play. It's got features which will keep you spinning for ages and returning for more.
