Introduction

No Wild West movie would be complete without a showdown.

You can see it now – tumbleweed rolls across the dusty town square as the two men face off.

Their faces are set in a steely grimace and sweat sheens off their skin as they flex their fingers.

The six guns at their hips are gleaming wickedly in the blazing sky… who will flinch first?

Will the Marshal win or will the Outlaw prevail?

There’s only one way to find out! Welcome to Wild Duel slot from Yggdrasil.

Gameplay

This one reminds me a lot of Xibalba slot in terms of the graphics. And it’s no surprise really, as once again Yggdrasil has teamed up with Peter & Sons to create this game. I love this style and despite all of the detail, it’s really easy on the eye.

Similarly, as with Xibalba slot, the opening scene allows you to select your bet, turn the music on or off, or check out the game info before getting into the action.

Speaking of music, it’s got that Tombstone type of dirge-like Western soundtrack, and I love how the controls are neatly placed at the bottom in that darker bar.

Oh, another cool thing is you can click on any of the symbols on the reels and be shown what the payout is like.

As for mobile play, this game looks ridiculously awesome! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game that looks this good on my phone. The controls now are big and easy to see as well.

In vertical mode, they’ve had to move the 6 red and grey playing cards – these are the Outlaw and Marshal Reels – below the reels but that doesn’t detract from the experience.

This high volatility game starts its betting at a mere €0.10. It tops out at a fairly low €25, but the top prize you can land on this game is a stonking quarter of a mil.

Features

Wild Duel: This is the game's main feature, and it comes about once you land 2 or more Scatters anywhere on the reels. It also awards a re-spin.

Remember the Marshal and Outlaw Reels? During the re-spin I mentioned, you’ll see characters appear on either side. They can trigger multipliers up to 10x, Random Wilds, Full-Stack Expanding Wilds, or Sticky Wilds.

If 2 characters land on the same row opposite each other, they’ll duel. You can even have multiple duels happening simultaneously and re-spins continue for as long as the Marshal wins the duels.

You can get 3 Wilds attributed randomly on any non-winning base game spin.

Land 3 or more Scatters and get 10 Free Spins. This also unlocks the Wild Duel feature.

Performance

Initially, the game worked just fine. Then it took a long time to load on my phone and threw up a “connection problem” error, which wasn’t the case as my Wi-Fi was running perfectly, and I was playing the game on my desktop with no issues.

I later experienced a glitch while playing on my phone, which meant I had to do a refresh. Then the game refused to load again – irrespective of the device or browser.

Maximum Win

There’s more than enough reason for our Outlaws to battle the Marshals – with a €250,000 top prize at stake, can you blame a man for tryin’?

Conclusion

What can I say? I love the graphics and the way the Wild Duel slot looks on my phone. And let’s not forget that massive max win that’s waiting for you if you bring in the 10,000x multiplier.

The studios could’ve just attributed Multipliers or Sticky Wilds in the traditional way, but they didn’t. Instead, they opted to apply their minds and create something wildly entertaining that suits the theme. And this is the type of creativity and passion which I applaud.

It’s sad then that technical issues plagued this game while I was busy with it. And it was weird because other members of the team didn’t have that, so I don’t even know what caused all of this.

I have no doubt that the game will run smoothly by the time you read this so don’t be put off. I’m just obliged to write about my experiences, but this is only a snapshot in time.
