Tempered Steel Slot Review
The reality TV show Forged in Fire was initially going to be about cutlery making. I’m being serious.
I’m not sure who came up with that idea, but luckily the producers had an epiphany at some point and went: Maybe cutlery is too boring. Let’s shake things up by crafting swords and knives! Ya think?
I’ve always wondered what happens to the meat they use to test the blades on (haven’t you?). Apparently, it gets cooked up on set and eaten. I guess they won’t run out of cutting implements, at least.
Now take a look at Tempered Steel slot from Yggdrasil. It’s time to slice and dice!
Gameplay
Here’s a never-before-seen theme! We’re in a blacksmith’s forge, and there are glowing embers and iridescent steel things all over the place. Which I guess is to be expected, given the name of this slot.
The design of this 20-payline game is audacious and sassy, but while it looks great on a larger screen, it doesn’t fare that well on a mobile phone in portrait mode.
When viewed this way, the forge takes over most of the screen. Look, it’s still possible to see the symbols, but it’s not the experience I was hoping for. Landscape mode is absolutely fine.
Speaking of disappointments, here’s the biggest one: the RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate. tips the scales at 90.5%. I kid you not. At least the max win is still all right (even though it could’ve been more generous, considering the high volatility rate) – that comes in at €200,000.
Lastly, it’s only possible to play Tempered Steel slot using fiat currency.
Features
The Wild symbol is our blacksmith, and landing 5 of him pays out €100. Wilds replace all symbols other than the Bonus Scatter.
QUENCHING:
Do ya see the tools to the left of the grid? Those might randomly drop into the barrel beneath them, and when they do, a random modifier will appear. It can take the form of a Lock And Spin, Bonus Frenzy, or Forge Your Weapon.
Lock And Spin:
Land a stack of Wilds, and their reels will lock. For every unlocked reel, you’ll be awarded an extra spin.
Bonus Frenzy:
During this modifier, extra Bonus symbols are added to the reels.
Forge Your Weapon:
When this triggers, you’ll be faced with choosing one of 3 forges. You’ll need to keep clicking on yours until it reveals the weapon hidden in the coals. This symbol will now appear as stacks of 3 symbols.
FREE SPINS:
Landing 3 or more Bonus Scatters kicks this feature off. Three Bonus symbols add 3 Wilds, 4 Bonuses add 4 Wilds, and 5… well, you get the drift. Wilds move up their reels per spin until they fall off the top.
You’ll see a forge under each reel, which will be lit at the beginning of the feature. With each spin, one or more forges will be activated, and this action adds Wilds to the reel above it.
You’ll see how many spins you have left on the counter to the top right of the screen. Do note, though, that it counts up rather than down. In other words, it doesn’t show you what’s left but rather how many spins have been played.
At the end of this feature, the forges could randomly re-ignite, in which case, the Free Spins round will continue. Now, the number of added Wilds will be increased by 1 (up to a max of 5).
BUY BONUS:
Fast track your way to Free Spins by paying 100x your base stake.
Performance
While testing on my desktop machine, I discovered that Tempered Steel slot hates Chrome. I’m not afraid to admit that it made my Apple fanboy heart pulsate with joy. The game loaded perfectly on Safari, by the way. Ha!
I didn’t seem to have the same issue on my phone, though. Mobile Chrome loaded super fast, actually.
Maximum Win
The max win is €200,000, which comes via a 10,000x multiplier at the highest bet of €20. However, you can start betting at €0.20 if you’d prefer, or any amount in between.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed this game, with its innovative features and bold graphics. The modifiers break up the monotony and work perfectly with the theme, which is also something you don’t see every day. The only letdown – but it’s a doozy – is that horrendous RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.. What a pity.
